Pumpkins 2011

We've kind of made a tradition out of carving pumpkins for Halloween, so Jon and I went to work again this year. I'll admit I couldn't find a design that I was really crazy about doing. Last year I did the RSL because they were in the playoffs and they sucked so I did not want to go that direction again- which was good, because ReAL played their first playoff game Saturday night and won 3-0! So anyway, Jon and I both got 2 pumpkins and here's how it turned out:

Mine is the witch and Jon is Ichibod

For our second ones, we decided to try something new. We've had this book of patterns that you use that cast shadows for a few years and we've never used it, so we both decided to try it. You have to carve patterns on both sides of the pumpkin, so it was a little more time consuming. Mine was just a face on the front and I carved Trick - or - Treat on the back and it is suppose to cast the "trick or treat" part onto the wall or background. Although it was tricky and looked good on the pumpkin, it wasn't clean enough (the fleshy inside of the pumpkin needed to be trimmed out so none was visible from the cuts) to cast the shadow, so I didn't even take a picture of it- oh well! So here's my face, kinda boring.

Jon's on the other hand was intricate and turned out really well. His cast the shadow, but he didn't display it so it would, because with all porch light and street light it wasn't dark enough to really see the shadow outside. But I think the front of the pumpkin is his best yet. The mummy is the back and shadow.

Love the pumpkins but we have now had Thanksgiving and Christmas is just around the corner. Can we get something new on here? I mean Deb has updated more than you. ;)
