Homeless

I just got done going downtown to St Vincent Paul's church to feed the homeless with some work people. My boss is great- he set this up to help us keep perspective and appreciate all the things that we have.
We made about 600 sandwiches. We started about 1:30 and it took us about 2.5 hours to do it. I think I unwrapped about 500 slices of individually wrapped cheese slices! And then went downtown and served. It was incredibly organized and there are such amazing personnel that keep the place running smoothly. And the people who came for the food were quite polite and for any regulars that have caused problems in the past, they won't allow in to get their own food, but the workers will take them out food. They didn't turn anyone away. Also before they started serving food they had a little moment of silence and prayer for a lady that I guess had passed away the previous night. They all seemed to know her, by name. I never realized that they are like their own little community.
I was going to try to get out of going, but I'm so glad that I went. It was so humbling!! Some people looked like everyday people; people that had on decent clothes and looked like they would have jobs, but I guess you never really know people's situations. It was so sad to see women come in with little children too.
It really made me open my eyes to everything that I do have. I have a job! I have a car to get from here to there. I have a warm house and bed to come home to every night. I have a warm shower and plenty of clean clothes to change in to. I have cupboards full of food. You get the point. It's just sad that it took something like feeding the homeless to make me really think about all that I have.

I think it's always the things we really don't want to go to that really make an impact on us. That was deep, I know!

That is great that you went and did this. For a second though, I thought because of the title you had been kicked out. lol
